Peugeot 208? In general, I love urban cars, the little GTi are able to make us enjoy like the big sports cars, and even in what areas, they are able to leave behind much more powerful cars. And all this is combined with its ability to be used on a day-to-day basis.
With the car of this test, the Peugeot 208 GTi 30 Anniversary, the brand has wanted to go further, and starting from the excellent base of the 208 GTi ( see test ), has created an authentic machine with which we will enjoy every kilometer at the wheel . We already had the chance to test it on a test day at the Jarama circuit ( see test ) , but now it’s time to see how it behaves on the street, with normal daily use, and obviously, with a mountain road trip.
Among its main competitors we find the rest of the small GTi of the rivals , such as the Polo GTI ( see test Polo GTI 180 cv ) that has recently been increased its displacement to 1.8 liters and its power to 192 hp , the same as It happens with the Seat Ibiza Cupra ( see test ) , another of its rivals, along with the Ford Fiesta ST ( see test ) . We can not forget the Opel Corsa OPC .

The Audi S1 ( see test ) is not exactly a rival, since it has Quattro traction, with more power and costs a lot more money . Nor should we mention the Volkswagen Polo WRC ( see test ) , a limited edition model, like the Gallic model, at least in principle.
The Peugeot 208 takes one more turn of the nut in terms of aesthetics. The new front for which he has bet the brand, provides a much more modern line that breaks with what presented the previous models. Presided by oversized headlights with rectangular internal structure, the GTi presents a feline look in which we must highlight the daylight offered by nine light-emitting diodes (standard in other versions) and the turn signals that unlike other 208 are also manufactured in this technology . Personally, I have missed the possibility of mounting xenon on the front lights or FULL LED and more, being a model as special as the 30th. I believe that the mere fact of not offering it is a failure and that they should have given the possibility, even if it is optional.
The dimensions of the 208 GTi are 3,963 mm long by 1,739 mm wide (without mirrors) and 1,450 mm high . The wheelbase is 2,538 mm and the model has a front / rear track width of 0.772 and 0.652 respectively, as well as a track width of 1,497 mm and 1,487 mm respectively.

Between the headlights we find a pronounced hood with the logo of the brand in a privileged location. Under the Lion we will find an opening in whose center is presided over by the name of the mark (in the case of the GTi, the letters are painted in red color).
Going down levels in the front we will find an incredible front grill in shiny black and with chrome details . What logically stands out given the color of the test unit, is the lacquered plastic finish on which the license plate will be stuck.
In the lower part of the grill we find an auction (in red) that gives a touch of color to the front, yes, it will only stand out if the color of the body is clear …
The front bumper has a clean and curved design in which we highlight the fog lamps with silver framing and the lower air inlet in black.
The side view is one of the design strengths of the 208 GTi 30th . With a nose in the lower position, a rear part in which the windows narrow as they approach the C-pillar and doors of generous dimensions, the GTi “seems to jump on the car ahead . ” The side windows are subrrayadas by a black profile that is born in the back and dies in an inscription that shows “208 GTi 30th” in the C pillar

With a new design side skirts that frame not only the side under the door but emanate from the front, frames the wheel arches and merges in the rear of the vehicle, the model has a lower and more robust aesthetic.
In the 208 GTi we will find a new design black matte rearview mirrors and tinted side windows that provide privacy and comfort to the occupants of the rear seats.
The side look is finished off with some beautiful 18 “wheels in matt black that fit Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires 205/40 ZR18 (89Y) and that make the model offer a spectacular performance.
Inside the rims are ventilated discs of 323 mm in front (with fixed four-piston Brembo calipers) and 249 mm at the rear cooled by dynamic air intakes that ensure precise braking and available at any time, without us finding no type of “but” in a “demanding” driving .
Already in the rear, starting at the top, we can say that the specific spoiler with built-in brake light is really good and if we go down we will find headlights that offer a distinguished appearance at night thanks to the 3D effect of them .

The rear bumper is the exact extension of the sides. In the central part of the same, the brand has mounted the fog light escorted by four parking sensors . Personally I think it is not the ideal place for fog lights because it is an area that can receive “taps” from other cars.
In the lower part we find the essence GTi again . A black air diffuser with chromed finials clearly improves the air passage , making the 208 GTi obtain an SCx of 0.61 (Cx of 0.29) , which is one of the best values of the segment and favors the fuel consumption and a significant improvement in CO2 emissions.
If we open one of the doors we reveal an interesting interior with some sporty features . From the thresholds, where the name of Peugeot stands out in reddish letters, the cabin is studied and designed to generate an exclusive and comfortable environment. The mixture of shades of red, black and chrome satin is latent in consoles and trimmings and the nod to the classic comes topped with colored surfaces in red as the mats of Peugeot Sport.
A front console in hard plastic with good appearance, noted for being lined in quilted materials in imitation leather that are topped by stitching in red.

Presiding over the central console, we find a large 7 ” touch screen with extended connectivity (Jack and USB and Bluetooth jacks).
The radionavigation system is of high quality however its screen may be unreadable on very sunny days. The driver can enjoy the streaming medium-high quality thanks to the six speakers of the car . Once arrived at destination following the orders of the navigator, it is enough to activate the Park Assist. In the middle part of the console we find the air conditioner with monochrome display. Below we will see the 2 USB sockets, the AUX input and the 12V socket.
